Google is updating the Core Algorithm for Searches in September 2022

Google Algorithm Update

September 13, 2022

This is an important update for every website owner who wants to improve their SEO Scores because google has announced a Core Algorithm Update, signaling noticeable changes to search results! The official Google list of announced updates mentioned that it will take about two weeks to finish rolling out.

The rollout already started yesterday morning at 11:26 am E.T. and the next update will be provided to us when it’s complete.

Usually, the algorithm is always undergoing changes, but they are really minor and unnoticeable. While the Core Algorithm Update is definitely a lot more noticeable than that.

History of Core Algorithm Updates

The most recent previous core update was in May 2022, called the broad core update and it was a significant and fast update.

We’ve had core updates prior like the November 2021 core update and before that was the July 2021 core update, prior to that was the June 2021 core update and that update was slow to roll out since it was a big one.

Before that, they had the December 2020 core update, which was very big, bigger than the May 2020 core update, and that update was also big and broad and took a couple of weeks to fully roll out.

Prior to that, was the January 2020 core update. There was the September 2019 core update before all of those mentioned above.

That update felt weaker to many SEOs and webmasters since many said it didn’t have as big of an impact as previous core updates.

Will this Core Update help with the Amplification of Helpful Content Update?

The helpful content is an embedded part of the algorithm core and it is continually doing its job. So a new website can be affected by that algorithm component called the Helpful Content Update (HCU).

Google hasn’t made an official statement that the Helpful Content Update is a major part of this core update. So it’s not right to say that it is being amplified in this Core update.

Even though there have been some early predictions about the HCU going to change everything, the search community has now regarded it with a shrug.

Some have expressed their opinion that they expect the HCU to come back stronger with a core update. Although it doesn’t seem like the case right now. These review and spam updates didn’t shake up the industry and the impact was limited to the obvious offenders instead.

What to do if you are Negatively Impacted by the Core Algorithm Update?

Google has mentioned in the past what to consider if you are negatively impacted by a core update. There are no steps provided to take to recover. In fact, a negative rankings impact might not even signal anything that is wrong with your pages.

On the positive side, they’ve offered a list of questions to consider if your site is hit by the update.

Google mentioned that you can see a bit of recovery between core updates. But the biggest change you would see will be after another core update.

Why you should care about this update?

Whenever Google updates its search ranking algorithms, your site’s search results can either do better or worse. Knowing when Google makes these updates gives us the insight to understand if it was something you changed on your website or something Google changed with its algorithm.
